The province of Ancona
was only established as an administrative unit following the
Unification of Italy, by bringing together areas which were
historically linked to the north and centre of the Marche area,
such as Fabriano, a city traditionally linked to Gubbio and
Camerino, and Senigallia, which had belonged to the ancient
State of Urbino for four centuries. However, despite its varied
historical background – which at times leaves traces in the
local dialects and peculiarities that are more appreciated today
than they were in the past – it is in the landscape leading from
the coast to the inland areas (or vice versa), that we find the
true identity of this area of the Marche. A landscape which
links the Apennine mountains to the Adriatic sea, with forms and
colours which are the heart of the literature and art from the
region. Moving from one city to another, using flexible forms of
tourism such as camping, is the best way to understand and
appreciate an area made up of lots of small towns, mini walled
republics each with their own treasures, historic figures and
local dishes, all jealously guarded. The museums, beaches,
historic villas, farmhouses and narrow alleys of the villages,
the beach huts, local restaurants and damp smells coming from
the cellars situated on the streets of the historic centres, the
faces in the bars, the breathtaking panoramas, appearance,
manner of giving information or wearing a hat, in short the “lifestyle”,
these are the true discovery for a tourist camping itinerary
which seeks to go beyond the traditional sites of mass tourism.
Exploring every inch of the area, with discretion but also with
wonder, an area where every kilometre offers something different,
but which has more things bringing it together than separating
it, this is the ultimate camping holiday. |
