Pesaro and Urbino is the
most northerly province in the Marche region, a strategic
crossroads for tourism, situated between the Adriatic Sea and
the Apennine mountains, between Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria,
summing up the attractions of central Italy. It offers a palette
of colours stretching from the greenery of the woods to the
azure blue of the sea, combining harmoniously together: along
the coast the beaches slope gently down to the sea amidst
rolling hills topped by ancient villages and castles. The
environment and history intertwine continuously in this
particularly attractive province, as one can easily appreciate
by making one’s way inland towards Urbino, which still conserves
the magical atmosphere of an ideal Italian renaissance city.
Around it one can appreciate the medieval setting of Monte
Feltro, while further on there are the mountains of the Apennine
chain, Carpegna, Nerone and Catria, leading to the valleys of
Marecchia, Conca, Foglia, Metauro and Cesano. There is a
succession of natural beauty spots, history and hidden artistic
masterpieces: intact fortresses or ruins on inaccessible cliffs,
sanctuaries and churches on open pastureland or at the edge of
the woods, plus princely palaces and solemn ducal courts. The
sea, the gentle hills, the peace and the high mountains, the
artistic heritage, popular traditions and wholesome, imaginative
and inexhaustible range of food and wine specialities give the
province of Pesaro and Urbino its name as the “beautiful
province” and make it a unique destination within the panorama
of Italian provinces. |
